The Poop catapault in your basement

So you really want to dig out your basement and finish it for that nice home theatre. Hmmm time to add a basement washroom, but alas the toilet will be below the sewer line if you dig out your basement to the depth you want. Toilets are not very good at flushing waste up because of a thing called gravity.

Drum roll please..........Introducing the sewage ejector and what it does

A sewage ejector pump is a large hole in the floor where a specialized pump will collect waste from all the plumbing fixtures below the sewer drain height i.e Toilet. The waste water will be pumped up to a drain to send those little evil doers on their way. Yes it does solids too and phssst up they go. You will now have all the headroom you want. On another note, they have been known to smell a bit and will require a new dedicated vent to the roof.
